CHARM CITY JUNCTION

Untitled-12.png

Charm City Junction stands at the musical crossroads of Baltimore—a city whose deep-rooted traditions in Irish, Old Time, and Bluegrass music have long intersected, overlapped, and evolved. From dance-inducing Old Time rhythms and foot-stomping Irish melodies to hard-driving Bluegrass, this Baltimore-based acoustic quartet channels that rich heritage into a fresh, high-energy sound that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats, never quite sure where the music will turn next.

Featuring fiddle, clawhammer banjo, button accordion, and upright bass, Charm City Junction draws directly from the diverse musical streams that flow through Baltimore’s history. Their sound reflects the city itself: vibrant, interconnected, and steeped in tradition, yet constantly pushing forward. The band isn’t afraid to take roots music to new places—but always with a deep respect for where it comes from.

Formed in 2014, Charm City Junction grew out of a crew of friends gathering in their living rooms—trading tunes, swapping styles, and discovering the natural chemistry between Irish, Old Time, and Bluegrass traditions. What began as informal sessions quickly took shape as something more: a shared musical language rooted in friendship, curiosity, and a deep love of the music.

Today, the band has become a standout force on the acoustic music scene, earning a reputation for captivating, dynamic performances across the country. Fiddler Patrick McAvinue, 2017 IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year, leads with a virtuosic and powerful musical voice. Clawhammer banjo player Brad Kolodner brings a driving, melodic Old Time groove, while button accordionist Sean McComiskey weaves soulful Irish textures throughout. Bassist Alex Lacquement anchors the group with tasteful, commanding lines that tie it all together.

Though each member comes from a distinct musical background, they meet in a shared space that feels both rooted and exploratory—a true reflection of Baltimore’s unique musical identity. Charm City Junction has appeared at premier festivals including Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, the National Folk Festival, Old Songs Festival, the American Folk Festival, and the Kennedy Center. Their latest album, Salt Box (2024), debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts, further cementing their place as torchbearers of a tradition that continues to evolve.
