ROMP - a family affair

written by Jesse Love, marketing intern

ROMP has been a very big part of my whole family for a very long time. When my dad, Chris Love, became involved with the festival in 2011, it was as if the whole family jumped into this wonderful adventure together. I was born immediately loving all types of music, so it was only natural for me to love all the musicians that come to the ROMP stage every year.

This past year, 2014, was one of the most memorable ROMP years that I have experienced. It was the first year that my family from Atlanta, GA came to check out the festival and it is safe to say that they will be back! My cousin brought her boyfriend with her last year giving her more of an excuse to pass on reasons to come to ROMP to her friends back in Atlanta.

I also had my best friend, Kassi, with me last year to enjoy the wonderful music. Kassi and I instantly became obsessed with The Wood Brothers. They aren’t your traditional bluegrass band, but they are insanely talented and set off such good vibes that Kassi and I clung on to. Since then we have seen them together once more and we both still have them playing on repeat.

My grandmother also came to ROMP last year. This was very cool for me because just in my family alone we had three generations at the festival. This just goes to show how inviting to all ages ROMP is. The aesthetic of ROMP is breathtaking; all the people that it draws to Owensboro is outstanding and I can’t wait to see what is has in store for us in the future!
